PALMETTO — A woman secretly texted her husband that she was being held against her will inside a car and asked him to call police about 5 p.m. Wednesday. The text message led to her rescue by law enforcement officers, the Palmetto Police Department reported.
The victim said that when she got into the car in the 100 block of Seventh Street West the driver asked her for $500.
After the victim said she paid the money, but the driver refused to let her out until she produced another $300, the report said. That’s when the victim texted her husband and asked him to call law enforcement because she was scared.
Officers caught up with the vehicle shortly afterward.
The victim later said in a sworn affidavit that she feared the driver. She also wrote in her affidavit that when officers stopped the car, the driver asked her to hide a pill bottle with 13.4 grams of cocaine. Woodrow Pressey, 40, was charged with driving with a suspended license, possession of an illegal substance and false imprisonment of an adult. He was released from Manatee County jail Thursday after posting a $10,500 bond.
