A woman who was ejected following a crash on Interstate 95 Monday became lodged under a second vehicle, officials said. Motorists used a jack to raise that vehicle, according to Matt Little, spokesman for Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue.
The woman suffered life threatening injuries and was taken to Broward General Hospital.
The accident happened about 7 a.m. on northbound I-95 just north of Sunrise Boulevard.
A second woman who was also hurt in the crash was also taken to Broward General Hospital.
Because of the accident, the northbound lanes of I-95 through the crash scene have been periodically closing, forcing motorists to exit the highway at Sunrise Boulevard.
Delays extend back to I-595.
Motorists can avoid the delays by accessing northbound I-95 at Oakland Park Boulevard or beyond or by using alternate routes such as State Road 7, University Drive or the Florida Turnpike to the west or U.S1 to the east.
Traffic on southbound I-95 is slow through the accident scene because of onlookers.
No other information about the accident was immediately available.
