Carjacking in Manatee ends with arrest of 3 teens

MANATEE — Three teenagers were charged this morning with carjacking a car in the parking lot of the Walmart store on State Road 70 East in East Manatee. They were arrested a short time later at the Walmart in Palmetto, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

A woman was sitting in the car in the parking lot of the Walmart at 2911 53rd Ave. E., about 1:10 a.m., waiting for a friend to get off work, when two assailants carrying guns and with bandanas covering their faces approached, knocked on a window and demanded money.

The victim said she didn't have any, so they told her to give them the car. She got out, holding her cell phone in her hand, which one of the suspects ripped out of her hand, according to the sheriff's office.

The two suspects fled in the car.

A short time later, a deputy located the car at the Walmart at 508 10th St. E., Palmetto, with the two carjacking suspects, Prince Pichardo, 16, and Fernando Cabrera, 15, and another teen inside, according to a news release.

Pichardo was charged with armed carjacking and robbery by sudden snatching. Cabrera was charged with armed carjacking.

The third teen, Hernaldo Carrillo, 17, was charged with grand theft auto.
