MANATEE — A man had his throat cut during a robbery outside a Bradenton bar earlier this morning, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
The victim, however, probably avoided more serious injury because he was able to grab his attacker's knife during a struggle, according to a news release.
The robbery happened about 2:25 a.m. at the El Paisano bar, 5803 15th St. E.
The victim was leaving the bar when he was approached by a woman who asked for a ride. The victim said, "I'm not a taxi," the news release states.
Moments later, a man entered the victim's vehicle on the passenger side, held a knife to the victim and demanded his wallet. The victim refused, and the suspect stole the victim's cell phone, according to the report.
The victim was able to activate the panic alarm on his vehicle, at which point he was received a puncture wound from the knife on his throat below the chin.
"The victim grabbed the knife during the struggle and possibly prevented further injury," the report states.
The victim suffered two cut fingers on his left hand. He was treated and released for his injuries, according to the sheriff's office.
The suspects fled in an unknown direction.
