Part of Third Street West in downtown Bradenton to be closed for work

BRADENTON -- A portion of Third Street West in downtown Bradenton will be closed Monday, Jan. 24 through Friday Feb. 4 so crews can install a new water line across Third Street West along the north side of Manatee Avenue, according to the Florida Department of Transportation.

Business access during this temporary road closure will be available from Third Avenue West and Seventh Street West. Motorists are advised to follow the suggested detour route and to expect possible delays.

Businesses affected include several medical offices, the Courtyard by Marriott hotel and the Bradenton Herald.

Improvements being made as part of this project consist of removing asphalt (milling) and resurfacing the roadway with new asphalt, drainage, signalization, streetscape (landscaping / irrigation), decorative lighting and installation of new water line. This project has an anticipated completion date of fall 2011.

Advance warning signs, electronic message boards, barricades and flaggers will be used to assist motorists. While traveling through the work zone, motorists are urged to use caution, obey the posted speed limit of 35 mph, expect possible delays and seek alternate routes whenever possible.
