MANATEE -- A homeowner called deputies Wednesday afternoon after he noticed a woman trying to break into his home using a screwdriver, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reports.
The homeowner stated he saw Lisa Meek, 43, enter his backyard at about 1:25 p.m. in the 6000 block of 7th Avenue East by jumping a fence. Meek then pulled a screwdriver out of her white purse and attempted to open the door and window, according to an arrest report.
The woman fled the scene after she realized the homeowner was watching her, the report said, and was later found by a deputy.
Once in custody, the woman was asked if she lived at the residence. She replied no, she then stated that broke into the house because she “had to get in to go to the bathroom,” the report said.
Deputies found a screwdriver inside the woman's purse. It was discovered that she broke into another home on the same street, but the owner of the residence refused to seek charges, according to the sheriff’s office.
Meeks has been charged with burglary of an occupied structure, providing false information to an law enforcement officer and possession of burglary tools with intent to use. She is currently in Manatee County jail on a $10,800 bond.
