Four escape blaze that destroys garage

MANATEE -- Four people were able to escape a blaze that started in the garage of their home early Wednesday, according to Cedar Hammock Fire Rescue.

The fire broke out just after 3 a.m. in the 4500 block of Mineola Street West. Firefighters arrived within four minutes of receiving the call and had the fire under control within 10 minutes, according to a report.

The occupants of the residence were already outside when three fire engines arrived on scene. One person had minor burns to his hands.

It was unclear what caused the fire.

The residents were able to stay inside their residence after the fire was contained. The fire caused about $5,000 in damage, according to the fire department.
