Construction worker struck in work zone on U.S. 41 in Bradenton

MANATEE -- A 47-year-old Iverness man was critical condition after he was struck by a Chevrolet pickup as he was kneeling down in a grassy shoulder near where a new Racetrac gas station is under construction, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

A 40-year-old Plant City man driving the Chevy did not notice the man on the shoulder of the roadway as he was heading south in the right lane of U.S. 41 and turned right into the entrance of the gas station located at 5410 14th St. W.

The man was struck just after 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. No skid marks were found from the pickup at the scene, according to the report.

The accident remains under investigation.
