30-year-old man charged with robbing a Sweetbay

MANATEE — A 30-year-old man was arrested Sunday on charges he robbed a Sweetbay store at gunpoint, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

A cashier and witness identified Shawn Duncan from a photo lineup, which lead to his arrest, according to a report.

The hold-up occurred about 7:15 p.m. Nov. 17 at the Sweetbay Supermarket in the 2500 block of Cortez Road West.

Duncan allegedly told a 20-year-old cashier that he had a gun and things would be worse if she didn’t do what he wanted, according to an arrest warrant affidavit.

Duncan took $588 from the register after he demanded the clerk open it, according to the affidavit. He then fled the store.

After reviewing video footage, deputies were able to identify Duncan as a suspect, according to the sheriff’s office.

The cashier and a second witness both picked Duncan out of a photo lineup, leading to his arrest Sunday, the sheriff’s office said.

Duncan has been charged with armed robbery and is being held in Manatee County jail without bond.
