Bicyclist who was shot in Bradenton keeps changing story

MANATEE — A 19-year-old man was treated for gunshot wounds to his arms, but he kept changing his story about what happened, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim told deputies he was riding his bicycle in front of the Siesta Inn, 2302 First St. E., Bradenton, about 11:30 p.m. Monday when he was struck by a vehicle. The victim then changed his story, stating he was riding his bicycle behind “Manatee Woods” and was struck by a vehicle, according to a news release.

“The victim alleges two males got out of the vehicle and stated ‘we are going to kill you,’ ” the release states. “The victim alleged he heard two shots as he was lying face down. The victim alleges two citizens picked him up from Fifth Street East and drove him to the hospital.”

He later changed his story, telling deputies the incident happened while he was riding his bicycle near Southeast High School, 1200 37th Ave. E., according to the sheriff’s office.Deputies say the man was shot in both forearms.
