MANATEE — According to a video surveillance tape, and confession given to the sheriff’s office, Trevor Chapman, 22, entered an enclosed garage in the 5000 block of Bay State Road, with the intent of robbery, a Manatee County Sheriff’s report said.
The homeowner has several cameras around the property. The tape showed a man wearing an orange shirt and black shorts trying to make entry through the front door Thursday around 4:47 p.m., and then through the garage by breaking a window, according to the report.
While inside the garage, Chapman tried to make entry into home by opening a door with a crow bar. This triggered the house alarm.
When deputies arrived they saw Chapman inside the home and arrested him. The report said that while in custody, and after his rights were read, Chapman confessed to breaking into the home in hopes of taking something of value.
The sheriff’s office is reporting over $1,000 worth of damage to the home.
Chapman was charged with burglary to an unoccupied residence, felony criminal mischief and possession of burglary tools. As of Friday night he was in jail with $11,750 bond.
