BRADENTON - A motorcyclist was killed Monday evening after he collided with an SUV on 26th Street West at the corner of 33rd Avenue West, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Steven L. Hatfield, 29, of Bradenton was riding his motorcycle south on 26th Street West when he collided with the rear of a Ford SUV that had just turned onto 26th Street from 33rd Avenue, near St. Joseph Catholic Church.
The driver of the SUV was not injured in the 9:05 p.m. crash, law enforcement officials said.
Witnesses said it appeared that Hatfield, who was not wearing a helmet, was speeding when the collision occurred, FHP officials said.
An FHP report released this morning said the driver of the SUV hadn't noticed that Hatfield was passing traffic when he turned onto the southbound inside lane of 26th Street West. Hatfield tried to avoid the SUV but collided with the right rear of the vehicle.
