MANATEE — A 76-year-old man suffered minor injuries after he was struck by a deputy’s patrol car Tuesday night, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.
The deputy was driving north in the 6500 block of 14th Street West in the far right lane when he struck the man at about 9 p.m.
“We’re not sure why he was in the roadway,” said Manatee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Dave Bristow. “The deputy was going below the posted speed limit.”
The man, who had sustained scratches, was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital where he was treated for his injuries. The patrol car had minor damage from the collision.
Bristow said as standard practice a traffic crash review will be conducted.
“There doesn’t appear to be anything the deputy did wrong. He was just driving down the road,” he said.
