Manatee sheriff releases photos of suspect in mattress store robbery

MANATEE -- The Manatee County Sheriff's Office has released security camera images of a man detectives believe robbed a local mattress store earlier this month.

The images were captured at First Bank, 2412 Cortez Road, about mid-day on July 19.

A couple hours later, the American Mattress store at 2115 Cortez Road was robbed.

Victims say the robber walked into the store about 2:15 p.m., tried out a few mattresses and then approached an employee behind the cashier's counter. Holding a gun, the robber said, "Give me the money," a sheriff's news release states.

The employee responded, "Get it yourself," and the suspect went behind the counter and opened the cash drawer.

"The victim shut the drawer while the suspect's hands were inside," the news release states. "The suspect then pulled the drawer out, threw it on top of a mattress and removed an undisclosed amount of cash."

At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing a tan rag on his head, white shirt, black jeans and bright yellow reflective vest.

Anyone with information about the hold-up can call the sheriff's office at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at (866) 634-TIPS.
