Bradenton man, 22, shot dead at brother's home

Updated at 11 a.m.

MANATEE -- A 22-year-old Bradenton man was shot and killed at his brother's home late Monday, and three suspects are being sought today.

Kyle Schweitzer was outside the home in the 7800 block of Manatee Avenue West with two other people and a pit bull. Three other men approached them at about 11:45 p.m., ordered them on the ground and shot the pit bull, killing it in the driveway. The men with Schweitzer fled the scene, but Schweitzer ran into the house, sheriff's officials said.

The suspects followed Schweitzer and fired shots through the front door, striking Schweitzer. The suspects then fled, but officials do not know in which direction. Schweitzer was taken to Blake Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives found a small amount of marijuana in the home, as well as thousands in cash, leading investigators to look into what role drugs may have played in the ambush, according to sheriff’s spokesman Dave Bristow.

“It’s certainly something we are looking into,” he said.

Bristow said two women and a child were also in the home, but were not injured.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call the Sheriff’s Office at 941-747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 866-634-TIPS.
