Man says he broke into house while hallucinating

MANATEE — A 29-year-old man was arrested over the holiday weekend after a woman came home to find him lying on her laundry room floor, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

Shawn Ryan Duncan, of Bradenton, faces a burglary charge after he told deputies he had a drug problem and he felt he was being shot at and was bleeding. He told deputies he ran from his home and was jumping over fences and swimming across a lake to try and “get away from his drug induced imagination of him being shot,” according to the report.

He said he saw the woman’s home in the 2900 block of 47th Avenue West and entered the porch. He said he was lying on the floor when he saw red flashes and broke out a window to enter the home.

The woman told deputies she noticed the back door was damaged when she came home and thought she heard a man’s voice coming from inside asking for help.

As of Tuesday night, Duncan remained in jail with a $7,500 bail, according to the Manatee County jail website.
