Man nearly robbed of wallet at gunpoint in Palmetto

MANATEE — A man hitching a ride was nearly robbed of his wallet at gunpoint Friday night, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The man accepted a ride from strangers for $10 trying to get to a neighborhood just west of U.S. 41 and 17th Street West. Instead, the man was taken to the 2000 block of Seventh Avenue West in Palmetto where he was ordered out of the car at gunpoint at 8:15 p.m., according to the report.

The man asked the driver why he was doing this and took off running east on 20th Street West. The driver and a female passenger headed east on 20th Street.

A suspect and vehicle description were not listed in the report.
