Manatee deputy kicked in mouth during traffic stop

MANATEE — A 26-year-old man had to be stunned after he resisted deputies during a traffic stop Friday night, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The deputy stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation and noticed the driver, Leontai J. Blair, and passengers were making “erratic movements” in the 6100 block of 15th Street East in Bradenton at about 10 p.m., according to the report.

Blair refused to exit the vehicle after a sheriff’s dog was called to walk around. He tensed up and deputies deployed a Taser. While trying to restrain Blair, he continued to kick, striking the deputy in the mouth.

The deputy sustained a small cut inside his mouth.

Blair was treated at Manatee Memorial Hospital before he was taken to jail. He faces charges of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting without violence. As of Saturday night, he remained in jail on a $2,250 bond.
