Haile Middle School student Vincent A. Franco did not advance to the semifinals of the National Spelling Bee, despite correctly spelling the two words asked of him in preliminary rounds today.
Contestants took a computerized test on Wednesday, and today attempted to spell two rounds worth of words. Vincent correctly spelled "legitimately" and "epulation," which Webster's defines as a "feast," "feasting" or "banquet."
Fifty semifinalists were named this afternoon and will compete on Friday for the championship and some $40,000 in prizes.
