Bradenton man injured in head on collision

A 38-year-old Bradenton man was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after he crashed his SUV head-on into a dump truck, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

The collision happened just after 9:50 p.m. Tuesday. The injured man was heading east on U.S. 301 when it appears he crossed into the westbound lane near the intersection with 100th Drive East, Parrish, according to FHP.

A passenger in the SUV was not injured. The 65-year-old driver of the dump truck, which belongs to Taylor and Fulton packing house in Palmetto, also was not injured.

The injured man had to be cut out of his vehicle by firefighters.

As of Wednesday evening, he was listed in critical condition in the intensive care unit.
