MYAKKA — Authorities on Tuesday morning nabbed a man who recently escaped from a Georgia jail, according to Manatee County Sheriff’s Office officials.
Sheriff’s deputies captured Kevin Taylor, 53, who escaped from a Georgia jail two days ago, at a home in the 30000 block of Saddlebag Trail in Myakka, according to sheriff’s spokesman Dave Bristow.
Bristow said reports from Georgia show Taylor had been jailed in Georgia on five counts of aggravated child molestation, when he escaped by forcing a corrections officer into a cell and fleeing the jail. He then stole a truck and came to Manatee, Bristow said.
Manatee deputies arrested him on kidnapping, escape, burglary and grand theft warrants. Bristow said he came to Manatee because he knew people in the area. Deputies followed up on tips from the public that Taylor was in the area.
Taylor was being held in the Manatee County jail without bail on the Georgia warrants.
Bradenton mother faces child neglect charge
BRADENTON — Police arrested a Bradenton woman after finding her 3-year-old child wandering in the street. The child led officers to a home infested with cockroaches, according to a Bradenton Police Department report.
Just after 5:30 p.m. Monday, police found a 3-year-old girl standing on the corner of Fifth Street West and Martin Luther King Boulevard without shoes and her feet “covered in gravel,” the police report said.
The child took officers to where she lived, in the 1100 block of Fifth Street West, and her mother, Chasity Denise Cummings, 36, told police her child had unlocked a door and wandered off.
Cummings allowed police to enter the home where officers found dirty clothes strewn about the house, an extremely dirty kitchen with a sink full of dirty dishes, and empty food containers “strewn about the house,” the police report said.
“As I continued through the house with Ms. Cummings, I saw hoards of cockroaches crawling on the floor in every room, and on the walls of every room,” a police officer wrote.
Police arrested Cummings on a child neglect charge and she was being held in the Manatee County jail without bond.
