MSO: Manatee man charged with choking pregnant woman

MANATEE — A 29-year-old man was arrested early today on charges he tried to choke a pregnant woman, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Edward Lee Jenkins was charged with committing battery by strangulation on a person he knew or should have known was pregnant, according to jail records.

Jenkins is accused of getting into a verbal fight with the victim in the 2600 block of 28th Avenue East at around 3 a.m., a sheriff’s report said.

During the fight, the victim said Jenkins dragged her outside on concrete, slapped her in the face and attempted to choke her. The victim, who is five months pregnant, suffered scratches, but did not require medical attention.

Deputies arrested Jenkins after they arrived. He was released later today on $5,000 bail, according to jail records.
