Home invaders take $5,000, video game box

MANATEE -- Home invaders came through the unlocked front door of a home in the 6000 block of 1st Street East and took $5,000 and a new Play Station 3 about 1:30 a.m. today, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.

Occupants of the house were setting up the new video game box and a 42-inch television, when two males dressed in black entered the residence. One was armed with a semi automatic handgun, according to the report.

The victim told investigators she had just returned home after cashing a check for $6,000 from Social Security benefits and had stopped at Walmart where she bought the TV and game box.

The intruders ordered the occupants to the floor, demanded money and ransacked a bedroom. The victim was struck in the head but did not require medical attention.

After the robbery, the intruders fled in a gold four-door vehicle, possibly a Chrysler Concord, according to the report.

Members of the Violent Crimes Task Force responded and assisted with the investigation.
