TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Senate President Jeff Atwater has appointed Sen. Mike Bennett to chair the Public Service Commission Nominating Council.
Bennett, a Bradenton Republican, was named Thursday to replace Sen. Lee Constantine, an Altamonte Springs Republican. Constantine resigned from the panel because he is among 60 applicants for two openings on the five-member utility regulating commission.
The council next month will send a slate of nominees to Gov. Charlie Crist. The vacancies were created when the Senate rejected Crist's last two appointees.
The nominating panel normally has 12 members - three senators, three House members and six non-legislators. One of the House seats, though, is vacant.
