Manatee sheriff: Man nabbed by deputies after break-in

MANATEE — Manatee County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrested a homeless man after he allegedly broke into a vehicle, according to a released statement.

Earnest W. McCoy, 21, was taken into custody after a 44-year-old witness took down a detailed description and the tag number of McCoy’s vehicle near the site of the break-in, the 5600 block of 14th Street West. Deputies were able to stop McCoy in the 5800 block of First Street Court East just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

McCoy reportedly smashed out the driver side window and took a radio. He also had a warrant for his arrest, according to the statement. Deputies found the radio a few homes away from the traffic stop.

As of Wednesday night, McCoy remained in jail on a $7,750 bond for charges including possession of burglary tools, not answering court summons and burglary.

He was arrested last month for theft, according to the Manatee County jail website.
