Crash closes southbound U.S. 41 for an hour

MANATEE — Traffic was detoured through the Ballentine Manor neighborhood for about an hour Friday night after a two-vehicle crash closed southbound U.S. 41.

At about 9:20 p.m. Friday, the driver of a dark blue Nissan Maxima pulled out from Suwanee Avenue onto U.S. 41 striking the side of a metallic blue Toyota Tacoma pickup that was heading north, according to Florida Highway Patrol Sgt. Greg Mitchell.

The pickup started rotating, then flip onto it side and rolled into the two southbound lanes of U.S. 41.

Mitchell said the injuries in the accident were minor, but the driver and passenger of the Nissan were taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, and the driver and passenger of the Toyota were taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital to be checked out.
