'51st Street shuffle' will add to W. Bradenton traffic headaches (with detour map)

MANATEE - The installation of new utility lines under 51st Street West is likely to add to the drive time for many West Bradenton commuters for most of the next month.

Construction workers on Monday will install barricades on 51st Street West both north and south of Cortez Road, so they can install the utility lines.

The traffic that usually uses the busy intersection instead will have to use detour routes established by the county. East-west traffic on Cortez Road will still be able to use the intersection.

The closure is expected to last until May 7, according to the Manatee County Public Works Department
