Wreck stalls traffic in downtown Bradenton this morning

BRADENTON - Traffic through downtown Bradenton was delayed this morning after a traffic collision on Manatee Avenue West.

David Gaines, a field supervisor for a local plumbing contractor, was heading west on Manatee Avenue, near the school district's headquarters, about 9:15 a.m. when he was sideswiped by a sedan that had pulled out into the intersection at Third Street West.

The impact overturned Gaines' pickup truck onto its driver's side.

"It was like slow motion, and it rolled over on its side," said Gaines, who was not injured in the accident.

The driver of the sedan, which suffered major damage to its front end, was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

As police and other officials investigated the crash, westbound traffic on Manatee Avenue West was diverted south along Third Street West to Third Avenue West.
