Two teens arrested in attempted purse snatching

MANATEE -- Following a chase and the use of a police dog, two teens were arrested Sunday after an unsuccessful attempt to steal a customer's purse from a shopping cart.

The customer, who had left her purse in her shopping cart at Target in the 6100 block of 14th Street West about 3:30 p.m. today, saw a 15-year-old make a grab for it and said, "What are you doing?"

The teen replied, "what, what," dropped the purse and ran out of the store, accompanied by a 16-year-old who served as the lookout, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

Two deputies responded and saw the suspects on the south side of Bayshore Gardens Parkway. The law enforcement officers identified themselves and ordered the suspects to stop.

The suspects fled from the deputies and a police dog unit was summoned. The suspects were apprehended shortly afterward on the south side of Bayshore Gardens Parkway.
