BRADENTON - Celebrate the arrival of spring training and minor league baseball in Bradenton at the First Annual Pirates Pep Rally tonight in downtown Bradenton.
Players, coaches and front office members of the Pittsburgh Pirates and Bradenton Marauders will join Mayor Wayne Poston on stage at 6 p.m. on Old Main Street. The rally will last until 10 p.m.
The Pittsburgh Pirates are entering their 42nd year with Bradenton’s McKechnie Field as their spring training home. The Pirates’ High A minor league affiliate, the Bradenton Marauders, begin their first season at McKechnie Field on April 8. The Marauders will unveil their uniforms at the rally.
“I would like to personally invite everyone in Tampa Bay to the downtown Bradenton Pirates Pep Rally to show Major League Baseball how proud Bradenton is to be the Southern Home of the Pittsburgh Pirates,” Mayor Poston said.
The rally will feature games for kids, mascots mingling with the crowd, baseball trivia with chances to win autographed Pirates memorabilia and music from Black Tie DJ throughout the night. Old Main Street will be aglow with strobes and lighted columns attached to the fronts of its buildings.
Pittsburgh hosts a similar rally each year for the Pirates.
Along with ball game food and beer vendors from Mattison’s, sponsors include the Bradenton Downtown Development Authority, Manatee Memorial Hospital, Pittsburgh Pirates, the Bradenton Herald and Bright House.
