Motorcyle crashes send two to hospitals

MANATEE — A 44-year-old motorcyclist was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg with a fractured leg Friday night, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The Bradenton man was riding south in the 5500 block of U.S. 41 when he overturned his bike near the center turn lane at about 9:20 p.m., said Trooper Robert Binegar.

Authorities suspected alcohol was a factor in the crash.

A Pizza Hut delivery man was driving a red compact car heading north when he struck the man, who was in the roadway, Binegar said.

The driver told troopers he was unable to stop in time. There was damage to the front left fender of the vehicle at the scene.

The driver did not require medical attention.

About 15 minutes later, in the eastern part of the county, there was another motorcycle crash in which another man lost control of his bike near the intersection of 44th Avenue East and Creekwood Boulevard.

The man was the only person involved and was taken to Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.
