BRADENTON — A Bradenton man was killed Tuesday night as he was attempting to cross Manatee Avenue after leaving the SweetBay parking lot at the intersection of 59th Street West, Bradenton police said.
He and a woman, both apparently regular customers at SweetBay, were crossing Manatee Avenue northbound at around 10 p.m. The woman made it across, but the man was struck by a vehicle heading east. She sat on a bus bench crying as an officer tried to console her while investigators conducted interviews. The driver remained at the scene.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was still resting in the right eastbound lane after 11 p.m.
Police shut down Manatee Avenue’s eastbound lanes at 59th Street West as they investigated the incident.
