Friends' fight turns violent

MANATEE -- Two friends who had been out drinking got into a violent fight and were arrested early this morning, according to a Manatee County Sheriff's Office report.

Phillip Ross, 41, and Michael Davila, 35, were in the kitchen of a residence in the 5200 block of 20th St. W., when they began arguing.

Witnesses reported hearing a smacking sound about 1:45 a.m. and then seeing the two men in the living room, where they ripped off each other's shirts.

Davila struck Ross above the left eye with a brass candle stick holder, causing a one-inch cut, according to the sheriff's report.

Davila fled to the bedroom, followed by Ross who had grabbed a large chef's knife from the kitchen.

Once in the bedroom, Ross cut Davila three times in the left side of his head causing three four- inch wounds, according to the report. Ross fled the scene.

Deputies arrived to find Davila sitting on the bed, bleeding from the head. Davila was transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital via Emergency Medical Services.

Deputies collected the knife and candle stick holder and took photos of the scene. Ross called and deputies persuaded him to return to the scene, where he was arrested. Deputies arrested Davila at the hospital.

The Violent Crimes Task Force assisted Patrol with the investigation. Ross and Davila had non- life threatening injuries, according to the report.
