Severed water main near cuts service to LWR hospital

LAKEWOOD RANCH - Water gushed from a broken water main today as workers blocked off Town Center Parkway at University Avenue.

The break interfered with water service to nearby Lakewood Ranch Medical Center, but the120-bed hospital quickly switched over to another source, said Jennifer Anderson Bryan, marketing coordinator for the hospital.

She said the hospital was under a “boil water” order, just as a precaution.

Hospital patients and employees had been told not to drink water from drinking fountains or eat ice made at the hospital, she added.

At noon, officials were still trying to determine what caused the main break, according to Nick Azzara, a spokesman for the county.
