Ice on wings kept a number of flights grounded at Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport and Tampa International Airport this morning.
Airlines, which decide which airports will be equipped with de-icing machines, don't have them at either Tampa or SRQ, due to the normally mild or warm weather.
Kelly Figley, community relations coordinator for the Tampa aiport, said 18 flights were delayed today, a few more than on Wednesday.
"The sun comes up and it melts the ice. Pilots have procedures on inspecting the airliners and it's their call whether it's go or no go," she said.
At SRQ, there were three flights delayed today, the same as on Wednesday, delaying the flights about 90 minutes each, said Rick Piccolo, SRQ's chief executive.
