A deputy put down an injured deer while on duty late Wednesday, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.
According to a news release, an off-duty Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office sergeant came across an injured deer just before midnight laying in the road at the intersection of Lorraine Road and Greenbrook Boulevard. A Manatee deputy responded to the call and the two attempted to pull the animal off the road in hopes it would run off.
However, the deer kicked at them and was too injured to move further, the release said. The deputy then contacted the sheriff's office for permission to euthanize the deer.
Permission was granted and it took one shot to put the deer down, the release said.
