SARASOTA --The Sarasota County Historical Commission will recognize the world-renowned Wallenda family with the dedication of a new historical marker 10 a.m. Jan. 8.
The house in the 1600 block of Arlington Street, Sarasota, is the former home of Karl and Helen Wallenda.
Known as the Great Wallendas, the Wallenda family performed a death-defying high-wire act with Ringling Brothers Circus starting in 1928, according to their Web site. Descendants of Karl and Helen Wallenda continue the act today.
The Sarasota County commissioners and members of the County Historical Commission will take part in the ceremony, which is open to the public.
