MANATEE — An 84-year-old Palmetto woman was in critical condition Christmas Eve at Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg after she pulled forward from a stop sign and was struck by another vehicle, according to Florida Highway Patrol.
The woman was stopped at a stop sign heading west on 37th Street East at the intersection of 36th Avenue East at about 1:40 p.m. Thursday. She pulled forward at the intersection when a 62-year-old Palmetto driver of a van collided with the vehicle at an angle. The van then spun clockwise striking the other side of the woman’s vehicle.
The driver of the van sustained minor injuries and was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital.
Charges are still pending in the case, according to a released statement.
