MANATEE — A Manatee County Sheriff’s Office crime scene technician was reprimanded for taking four years to turn in a key piece of evidence in a robbery, according to a report released Thursday.
Jason Smith was cleaning out his desk when he found a fingerprint card dating back to July 16, 2005, when a robber entered Value Cleaners, 233 301 Blvd. E., wielding a knife and took $1,189. The case has no arrest to date, according to records.
In a separate internal incident, a sheriff’s office major was also reprimanded and received training after she mishandled her gun. Maj. Connie Shingledecker discharged her gun at the floor, causing a bullet to ricochet into the wall Nov. 12 while at the MTI Gun Range, 5603 34th St. W. No one was injured.
