MANATEE - A 49-year-old man shot himself to death this morning, after a Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputy tried to serve him with an arrest warrant, according to the sheriff's office.
The incident started just before 10 a.m. at a residence in the 1100 block of 60th Street West.
The deputy went to the door and announced himself to the man inside. The man, whose name has not been released, never opened the door, but the deputy could see him through the glass of the front door, according to the news release.
The deputy saw the man go to into a back area of the residence and then heard what sounded like a gunshot.
At that time, the deputy backed off and the sheriff’s SWAT Team was called out. SWAT entered the residence and discovered a man dead of an apparent gunshot.
The man's identity has not been released pending notification of next of kin.
The warrant was for violation of probation on a reckless driving charge, according to the sheriff's office. There were no other people inside the house.
