BRADENTON - A jury this evening found Otis C. Mack guilty of first-degree murder and burglary, in the death of Janice Fore.
The verdict was announced about 5:45 p.m.
Mack faces an automatic life sentence, since the prosecution did not seek the death penalty. He will be sentenced Nov. 19.
Mack has been on trial all week on charges he and another man in May 2008 broke into the 74-year-old Fore's home oand killed her during a burglary.
Mack's co-defendant, Marcos Herrera, has already been found guilty of the same charges and sentenced to life in prison. Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputies found Fore suffocated on her bed, bound and gagged with duct tape.
Assistant State Attorney Art Brown presented to the jury four hours of interviews by sheriff's detectives of Mack in which he confessed to entering her home, and helping Herrera duct tape her legs.
Mack did not testify in his defense, and his attorney, Assistant Public Defender Steven Schaefer, did not call any witnesses.
