Missing Sarasota boy found OK

SARASOTA - The Sarasota County's Sheriff's Office has located a 3-year-old boy who earlier was the subject of an Amber Alert.

Alexander Lakhno, the boyfriend of the boy's mother, became aware of the missing status due to extensive news coverage and called the sheriff’s office. Detectives are conducting follow-up interviews to determine exactly what took place, according to a news release.

Sheriff Tom Knight thanked local media for their quick response to this situation. Further details will be released when available.

Lakhno and the child, Cassius Turner, had last been seen in the area of 17th Street and Beneva Road.

The boy's mother told authorities she felt uneasy and came home from work to check on things at home. Lakhno, who normally watches the child when she works, was not at the residence. Neither was Cassius, said sheriff's office spokeswoman Wendy Rose.

The mother told authorities she began driving around looking for them, Rose said. She said she saw Lakhno near the intersection of 17th Street and Beneva with Cassius in the backseat. She said she tried to flag him down. Lakhno allegedly saw her and reacted by speeding away, according to Rose.

The sheriff's office issued the first public advisory of the search, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement in Tallahassee quickly followed with the Amber Alert, indicating there is a clear indication of an abduction.
