Manatee man charged in theft from grandfather

MANATEE — A 20-year-old man was arrested Friday after investigatos said he ripped off his own grandfather.

Paul Edward Pagini, of the 2400 block of Stanford Avenue, woke his grandfather up on Thursday from a sleep and had him sign a blank check, saying it was for $100, according to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report.

The older man said he was groggy and signed the check without question.

Pagini made the check out to himself for $21,000 and deposited it in his bank account.

When another grandson, who has a joint account with his grandfather, noticed the $21,000 withdrawal, he notified his grandfather.

Pagini was charged with grand theft and use of an identification of another without consent.

He was released from the Manatee County jail Sunday on a $30,000 bond.
