Manatee man busted on child porn charges

MANATEE - A 54-year-old Manatee man was arrested on child pornography charges after an undercover postal agent delivered four pornographic DVDs to the suspect's home, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

After he was arrested Friday, William J. Zimmerman of Bradenton, gave detectives "information about other incidents that will be further looked in to regarding the possible ... molestation of a minor," a news release states.

As the sheriff's office describes it, Zimmerman was ensnared by an undercover operation started by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service. His name, according to the sheriff's office, was on a list of more than 700 individuals who had purchased child pornography and "child erotica" from a California company.

Using fictitious letterhead, an undercover federal agent contacted Zimmerman about child pornography that was available via mail order, according to the sheriff's office.

On Friday morning, an undercover postal inspector, posing as a letter carrier, delivered to Zimmerman's trailer in the 1200 block of 51st Avenue East, a package of four DVDs containing child pornography. Zimmerman signed for and received the package, according to the sheriff's office.

About six or seven minutes later, authorities executed a federal search warrant. During the search, officials recovered the DVDs, as well as a check register documenting the check written to buy the pornography and the original correspondence from the fictitious company, the sheriff's office said.

Zimmerman, who faces four counts of possession of child pornography, was being held at the Manatee County jail on $4,000 bond.

Anyone with information about potential victims in the case can call Detective Todd Sellitto of the sheriff's office's Internet Crimes Against Children Unit at (941) 747-3011, ext. 1909.
