Man shot in Manatee home invasion

MANATEE - A 41-year-old man was shot in a home invasion robbery this morning in the 1800 block of 46th Avenue Drive West, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim's girlfriend told detectives that when she opened the rear sliding glass door about 6:30 a.m., she saw three intruders who rushed into the residence, according to a news release.

At gunpoint, they separated the woman from her boyfriend, and demanded money. The used duct tape to bind the woman, as well as the man's 12-year-old daughter, who was asleep in a bedroom.

The woman told detectives that she heard a gunshot from the living room.

After the suspects fled, the woman and girl were able to free themselves, and found the man in the living room with a gunshot wound to the thigh, according to the sheriff's office.

A police dog was able to track the suspects to 20th Street West, where it lost the scent.

The victim was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg for treatment.

The suspects were described as being men in their 20s, according to the sheriff's office.
