Horse shot in face; vet puts it down

MYAKKA CITY — A local veterinarian recently euthanized a Myakka City horse after someone apparently shot it in the face.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office incident report, the owner discovered the horse with severe facial injuries Thursday morning in the 5400 block of 249th Street East.

The owner took the horse to a veterinarian, and the vet said the horse had sustained several facial fractures.

After the owner described the horse’s injuries to deputies, they determined someone shot the horse with a shotgun, the report states.

The horse later was put down. No further information was available.
