MIAMI — It’s closer to Africa than the Americas, but it’s also that time of year when showers can develop into dangerous tropical storms.
An area of showers associated with a tropical wave west of the Cape Verde Islands is being watched for possible strengthening. Over the next two days, meteorologists at the National Hurricane Center say the probability of that is low.
But the disturbed weather still bears watching as the showers move westward toward the Caribbean — here in the second month of the Atlantic hurricane season.
So far in 2009, there have been no named storms.
