Manatee man injured in home invasion robbery

MANATEE - A 52-year-old man was injured early this morning by three men who beat him with metal pipes before stealing his prescription medicine, according to the Manatee County Sheriff's Office.

The victim was sitting inside his trailer in the 3700 block of Manatee Avenue West about 2:22 a.m.when three men burst in and began hitting him with metal pipes. They did not say anything to him, but he heard one attacker tell the others, "Get the bottles," a sheriff's office report states.

The attackers took the victim's methadone and oxycontin, which were on a table next to the victim, and fled in an unknown direction, the sheriff's office said.

The victim stumbled into the street, and a neighbor called 911. The victim told investigators that he had just had the prescriptions filled, and he did not know anyone who might rob him, the report states.

The victim had cuts to his head and forearms, and was taken to Manatee Memorial Hospital for treatment.

The suspects were described as wearing blue jeans and having their faces covered, according to the sheriff's office.
