Governor signs horse helmet law

LOXAHATCHEE — Florida’s governor has ceremonially signed a law requiring children younger than 16 to wear a helmet while riding a horse on public roads.

Gov. Charlie Crist signed the bill last week, but re-enacted it at a ceremony Monday at a park in Loxahatchee.

Van carjacked with 3-year-old boy inside

DELTONA — Authorities say three people are under arrest in Florida for carjacking a van that had a 3-year-old boy inside.

The suspects put the boy out of the van in Deltona Monday before taking off with the vehicle.

Police recover baby and stolen car

ST. PETERSBURG — Police have recovered a stolen car and a baby who was in the back seat when the car was stolen from in front of the child’s house in west Florida.

The baby’s mother, Kara Lane, said she had put her son in the back seat of the car, which was parked outside their front door, and went back inside to get his diaper bag and her two daughters, ages 3 and 4. That is when someone got in the driver’s seat and drove off.
