Manatee deputy hits suspect with Taser

MANATEE - A Manatee County Sheriff's Office deputy used a Taser to subdue a man wanted on a domestic battery warrant, according to the sheriff's office.

A deputy responding to a 911 hang-up call found Larry Kelly, 40, at a business in the 8400 block of Carolina Street about 10:30 p.m. Wednesday. The deputy, who had investigated the earlier domestic battery complaint, saw Kelly outside the business and watched as he went inside, the sheriff's office said.

Inside, the deputy encountered Kelly, who went to an industrial-sized welder and turned it on. The deputy several times ordered Kelly to put down the welder, but he refused, according to a news release.

The deputy used his Taser to subdue Kelly, who was taken into custody on charges of domestic battery and obstruction.
